ÒRÙN is an Afro-Baroque olfactory artwork inspired by the cultural significance of the radiant sun in African life.

It represents one of the ten hieroglyphs of the Abela brand, embedded within its symbolic signature motif. Within this visual language, ÒRÙN embodies vitality, clarity, renewal and the power to illuminate.

Across many African societies, the sun has long been regarded with reverence, not only through belief and symbolism, but through the way everyday life was organised around its presence.

Its rising awakened the compound and signalled the beginning of labour. Farmers journeyed to their fields, traders prepared for market and families set out grain, herbs, fruits, fabrics and harvested crops beneath its warmth. Its movement across the sky helped communities read time, anticipate the seasons and understand the rhythms of cultivation, rest and renewal.

The intensity of the sun also shaped African ways of living. Courtyards, verandas, shaded trees and airy buildings reflected an intimate understanding of light and heat. Work began in the cooler morning hours, slowed beneath the midday sun and resumed as evening approached. Life did not simply happen under the sun; it moved in conversation with it.
